Before being an international hair stylist, I am a traveler.

Before being a traveler, I am an Italian man with HAIR ON MY MIND.

I am a globetrotter with strong Italian roots. My hometown is a small city in the centre of Italy. In there everything is genuine and genuineness is a characteristic that has marked all my life.

In fact, before being Enrico Mariotti the hair stylist, I am Enrico Mariotti the man.
My life is frenetic and everything goes very fast, but my origins have taught me not to loose the contact with the reality and with the things that really counts in the life: family and friends.

I’m a citizen of the world. I live between Milan and New York and traveling for me is a necessity. A half part of my life is up in the air. If I am invited for a dinner, I can show up with 2 bags of luggage: one with my tools because I am just coming from a set and the second one for the flight that I have to catch after the dinner.

I work in fashion but I am not a fashionaholic. When it comes to clothing, I don’t really have time to think about myself. So I pretty much stick to a basic and comfortable uniform: jeans and t-shirt. I prefer to communicate my personal style through my works than trough the clothes that I wear.

I find inspirations from everything that surrounds me: museums, architecture and music. I rarely call upon a specific period to reference for my inspirations instead I look to everything from renaissance to cutting edge technology. My biggest inspirations are always the people I collaborate with everyday.

I have a love affair with art. I use art as a way of identifying the women I plan to create. Gustave Klimt is the artist that I feel my way of working is closest. I adore Gustave’s representation of women and choice of colors.
The movies are another defining element in my style. I love the aesthetics of ’60s movies and the “Dive” of those years. I am inspired by actresses with charm such as the Italians Monica Vitti and Sofia Loren, the French woman Sophie Marceau, the great Marylin and so many others. Movie directors that I really appreciate are: Fellini for his own personal sense of humor and big fantasy, De Sica for his sense of reality, and Kubric for his surreal vision. I really love even the aesthetics and modern point of view of Wong Kar-wai, the director of “In the mood for love” and “ 2046”.

I started to do hairstyling in the salon during the earlier ‘80s then I made the transition into fashion by working at the shows in Milan during  the ‘90s. I have learned to create the women that the designers envision in their mind and I take pleasure in inspiring real women through my runway look. My belief is that beauty is something that you wear like clothes. It’s individuality. It’s your mark. I admire anyone who is just himself. These are exactly the people who inspire me.


Prima di essere un hair stylist internazionale, sono un viaggiatore.

Prima di essere un viaggiatore sono un Italiano con i “CAPELLI PER LA TESTA”.

Sono un giramondo con forti radici italiane. Provengo da una piccola citta’del centro Italia dove tutto e’genuino e la genuinita’ e’ una carrateristica che ha marcato la mia intera vita.
Infatti, prima di Enrico Mariotti hair stylist c’e’ Enrico Mariotti uomo. La mia vita è frenetica e tutto scorre velocemente, ma le mie origini mi hanno insegnato a non perdere il contatto con la realtà e le cose che contano veramente nella vita come la famiglia e gli amici.

Sono un cittadino del mondo. Vivo tra Milano e New York e viaggiare per me è una necessità. Trascorro molto tempo in aereo. Sono il tipo di persona che, se invitato ad una cena posso arrivare con 2 valigie: una con i miei strumenti di lavoro, perché arrivo da un set fotografico e l’altra per il volo che devo prendere successivamente.

Lavoro nella moda ma non ne sono ossessionato. Quando si tratta di vestiti, in realtà non ho molto tempo per pensare a me stesso, così indosso praticamente una divisa, basica e comoda: jeans e t-shirt. Preferisco comunicare il mio stile attraverso il mio lavoro piuttosto che attraverso gli abiti che indosso.

Tutto cio’ che mi circonda mi ispira: musei, architettura, musica. Raramente per le mie storie prendo spunto da un periodo storico specifico. Mi lascio contaminare dal Rinascimento fino alla tecnologia piu’ all’avanguardia; anche se le fonti di ispirazione piu’ grandi rimangono sempre le persone con cui lavoro tutti i giorni.

Ho un forte legame con l’arte, la uso per identificare le donne che creo. Gustave Klimt è l’artista che sento più vicino al mio stile. Adoro il suo modo di rappresentare la donna e la sua scelta dei colori.
Il cinema e’ un’altra determinante del mio stile. Amo l’estetica e le dive degli anni ‘60. Sono costantemente ispirato da affascinanti attrici italiane come Monica Vitti e Sofia Loren, o dalla francese Sophie Marceau o ancora dalla grande Marylin. E moltre altre Alcuni tra i registi che apprezzo molto sono Fellini, per il suo personale humor e la sua grande fantasia, De Sica per il suo amaro realismo e Kubrick per la sua visione surreale. Mi piace molto anche il moderno punto di vista di Wong Kar-wai, il regista di “In the Mood for Love” e “2046”.

Ho iniziato a lavorare in salone negli anni ‘80, il salto nel mondo della moda invece e’ avvenuto negli anni ‘90 lavorando nei backstage delle sfilate a Milano. Ho imparato a creare le donne che i designers immaginano e mi entusiama ispirare le donne con i look che creo durante le sfilate. Io credo che il beauty, inteso come acconciatura e trucco, sia qualcosa che si indossa come un abito. E ‘personale. E ‘il tuo stile. Ammiro chi riesce ad esprimerlo rimanendo se stesso. Queste sono esattamente le persone che mi ispirano.
